Mother Tongue Fortnight
Mother Tongue Fortnight Activities:
These activities are conducted to further strengthen students’ interest in the Tamil language and to make the learning of Tamil more enjoyable. In addition, they help students learn about our culture, heritage and traditions.
Children’s Songs
Primary One students participated in a song workshop. Children’s songs are short in length, and the words used in them are repetitive and easy to repeat. In addition, children engage in the songs by incorporating body movements that match the words.
Repeating words and phrases helps to strengthen language skills. This approach makes listening skills and overall language comprehension more interesting and lively.
Drama
Primary Two students participated in a drama workshop. They enjoyed acting according to the stories. Drama encourages creativity and self-expression and also motivates children to speak with confidence.
Food as Medicine
Primary Three students participated in a workshop that explained the medicinal properties found in Indian cuisine. The students not only touched and examined ingredients such as betel leaves, coriander, mint, and curry leaves but also learned about the health benefits contained in them.
The students gained an understanding of the aromatic ingredients used in cooking, their medicinal properties, and the importance of consuming them.
Mother Tongue Activity Day
Primary Four students participated in a one-day Mother Tongue Activity Day, during which they learned many things about Indian culture and traditions
They expressed their artistic talents by engaging enthusiastically in activities such as making handicrafts, colouring, as well as participating in traditional dance and games.
Digital Cartooning
Primary Five students participated in a workshop on digital cartooning. They created a story and, using various applications, brought the characters to life with the help of cartoons and presented their work in front of the class. The students demonstrated both their creativity and their information technology skills.
Tamil and Artificial Intelligence
Primary Six students participated in a workshop titled Tamil and Artificial Intelligence, where they learned the fundamentals of artificial intelligence. They then worked in groups to create stories and confidently presented them in front of the class. The students demonstrated innovative thinking, creativity and information technology skills.
These two-week Tamil Language Week activities serve as a meaningful effort to further increase students’ interest in the Tamil language.
