Learning Support Programme (LSP)

The objective of the Learning Support Programme (LSP) is to provide English Language support to Primary One and Two pupils identified through the Early Literacy Indicator.

The Primary One pupils are taught phonological awareness, alphabetical knowledge and principle, decoding of regular words, recognition of irregular words, penmanship, spelling and grammar. In every unit, pupils carried out extensive reading using graded books. For these lessons, the pupils are taken out from their form class during an English period. Their progress is monitored regularly and Primary One pupils who meet the criteria will be discharged at the end of Primary One. Pupils who do not meet the criteria will continue to be in the programme in Primary Two.

The Primary Two pupils are taught syllabication to decode polysyllabic words. They are eventually taught to read aloud STELLAR texts accurately, at a reasonable speed and with comprehension. They learn to apply alphabetic principle, word attack skill and syllabication skills to read polysyllabic words, vocabulary, spelling, grammar and writing. Their progress is monitored regularly. Pupils who meet the criteria will be discharged at the end of Primary Two. Pupils who do not meet the criteria will be move on to either SDR/RRP in Primary Three and Four.
